ExpressionEngine : Outputting Amount of Entries in a Category

I was quite surprised to discover that this feature was not supported in the software right out of the box. In my opinion this functionality is a factor of blogs that rarely is omitted and therefore I have a solution so that it does not have to be left out when developing a blog using ExpressionEngine.
